Strength. Discipline. Shotokan spirit.

Carry your connection to karate beyond the dojo with this stainless steel Shotokan Tiger necklace, created for karateka who wear their passion with pride.

Featuring the distinctive tiger within a circle, the 30 mm pendant makes a bold statement with a clean, understated design. Approximately 1.2 mm thick, it has a sturdy feel and the tiger pendant resists bending.

Paired with an approximately 56 cm chain, it’s a meaningful accessory for everyday wear or a thoughtful gift for a fellow karateka, instructor, or training partner, whether celebrating a grading, marking a milestone, or simply honoring their dedication to the art.

The Shotokan Tiger brings together strength, vigilance, and self-control. The tiger began with a “Tiger Scroll.” Artist Hoan Kosugi designed it for the cover of Gichin Funakoshi’s first karate book in 1922. His inspiration was the Japanese expression Tora no Maki: literally “Tiger Scroll,” used for an authoritative manual or reference work. The tiger was a visual play on those words, and it became closely associated with Funakoshi’s dojo and later style of karate: Shotokan.

Its traditional symbolism is powerful. The tiger represents strength, courage, and tenacity. Karate explanations also draw on the traditional idea that the tiger “never sleeps” a metaphor for constant awareness and readiness, rather than a literal claim about the animal. For a karateka, that means remaining attentive and composed.

The circle is often interpreted as controlled power. The tiger has formidable strength, but that strength stays contained: a fitting image for someone who develops fighting ability alongside restraint.

This necklace is a beautiful memento to express that meaning: The strength to act. The discipline to choose when.

A reminder of the fire and control karateka bring to the dojo, and carry into everyday life.
